In 1997 Wayne Maugans began teaching acting and directing with 5-time OBIE Award winner, and internationally-acclaimed director Joseph Chaikin.
These professional workshops focused on the rehearsal process, exploring the relationship between director and actor. Work was assigned from playwrights chosen by Mr. Chaikin. The writers always included William Shakespeare and Samuel Beckett (whom Chaikin had known personally), as well as other major writers including Eugene O'Neill, Anton Chekhov, Eugene Ionesco, Tennessee Williams, and George Bernard Shaw. Chaikin is author of the now classic book The Presence of The Actor.

Wayne is currently enrolled in the MFA Directing Program at Brooklyn College where he has received a teaching fellowship for 2009 - 2010.
